WHAT TO WATCH: CANELO vs MBILLI 🥊
Saturday, October 31, in Riyadh. Christian Mbilli defends the WBC super middleweight title against Canelo Alvarez.
Watch it like a coach, not just a fan. Four fundamentals to look for:
1. GUARD. In a 12-round title fight, watch whose guard is still up late. Both hands up, chin tucked, elbows tucked, eyes forward. The guard that holds under pressure is the one that was drilled, not improvised.
2. JAB. Watch who controls the distance. The jab sets the range, breaks the rhythm, and opens the door for everything else. The fighter whose jab is working is the one choosing where the fight happens.
3. CROSS. Watch the straight rear hand. Feet set, shoulder and hip behind it, straight back to guard. Power in a title fight comes from the ground up, not from swinging wide.
4. COMBINATIONS. Watch the sequences, not single punches. Jab, cross. Jab, hook. Every punch thrown from guard, and every combination finished back on guard, balanced and ready.
That is the lesson, whatever happens on the night: fundamentals held under pressure, round after round. Drill them until they are instinct, and they hold when it matters.

POST-FIGHT: CANELO vs MBILLI 🥊
October 31, 2026. Kingdom Arena, Riyadh. Canelo Alvarez beat Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision over 12 rounds — 115-112, 116-111, 117-110 — to reclaim the WBC super middleweight title. No knockdowns. Mbilli lost a point in round 8 for punches to the back of the head, and suffered the first defeat of his career.
We told you what to watch. Here is what decided it:
1. GUARD. Canelo’s guard held under Mbilli’s pressure all night — head movement, high guard, shoulders rolling shots. The guard that holds under pressure is the one that was drilled, not improvised.
2. JAB. Canelo’s sharp jab set the terms: it scored, broke Mbilli’s rhythm, and opened the door for counters. The fighter whose jab is working is the one choosing where the fight happens.
3. CROSS. The straight right hand did the clean damage — feet set, shoulder and hip behind it, straight back to guard. Power from the ground up, not swinging wide.
4. COMBINATIONS. No single punch won this fight. Jab, cross, hook to head and body, finished back on guard. From round 6, Canelo took over in bunches — combinations, round after round.
That is the lesson: fundamentals held under pressure, round after round. Drill them until they are instinct, and they hold when it matters.
